Guess Which Actor Is Winning an Award for Wearing Makeup

And why he’s the best man for the honor

If we’re fairly certain of two things when it comes to Johnny Depp, they’re that (1) he never fails to surprise us with the range of roles he takes on, and (2) the man is not afraid of a makeup brush. The actor has appeared as everything from a pirate to an evil barber to a man with scissors for hands, and he has undergone major physical transformations to play each role.

Fittingly, then, it was announced this week that Johnny will receive the first-ever Distinguished Artisan Award at the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards on February 15.

“Makeup and hair artisans agree that Johnny Depp is a wonderful selection to receive our first Distinguished Artisan Award,” Guild president Susan Cabral-Ebert said in a statement on the Guild’s website. “He, probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters. Depp has constantly been an outstanding supporter of our crafts, ultimately respectful and appreciative of our members’ abilities and generous with his creative collaboration. A great artist himself, he allows others to shine.”
