Facebook turns 10 this week! Here's what the site's taught us in the last decade

Today's Facebook's 10th birthday! It's come a long way since it launched in 2004 as "TheFacebook.com"—and Facebook users have, too. To mark the occasion, we put together a list of the biggest life lessons we've learned through logging on.  

1. Relationships can be complicated.

2. The editors at BuzzFeed and UpWorthy are evil and creative geniuses.
 

3. If you change your hairstyle or gain five pounds, everyone from your third-grade classmate to that guy you met at a bar once will find out about it.

4. No, you don't actually want to know what your ex's new girlfriend was doing in the last 100 pictures she posted on Facebook.
 

5. There are a million ways to overshare, and your mom has figured out a way to do all of them at the same time.

6. The stories you share and the stories you shamefully click on are definitely not the same.
 

7. Pet/wedding/baby photos get old surprisingly quickly.

8. …Unless they're your own.

9. Engagement season is most definitely a thing.

10. Nothing on Facebook is real—it's just what people want you to know about your life. Those vacation/bikini/party pics? It's called editing. What you don't see is the 354 days of the year your friends spent eating Kraft Mac & Cheese on the couch while watching Netflix.
